Since 1999, Steamboat locals
and visitors have flocked to Azteca Taqueria for
made to order burritos, tacos, quesadillas and other mexican fare.
Now relocated in the historic Squire Building on 9th Street behind Lyon's
Drugs, we continue the tradition of serving hearty, healthy,
homemade food.
Check out the praise for Azteca:
The Steamboat Pilot & Today wrote, "For great,
inexpensive Mexican food on the go, you can't do better than
this." The rough guide to the Rocky Mountains..."one
of the The Boats most authentic local hangouts"..."Steamboats favorite quick serve taco and burrito bar..."
Grab a" justifiably famous breakfast
burrito" (Steamboat Pilot and Today) on your way to
the slopes or a day on the river, join the locals who line up for
Steamboat's "Best bargain lunch"
(Best of the Boat Readers Choice). We're open until 9pm
(9:30 weekends) for dinner, serving a wide selection of beer and
margaritas at reasonable prices. During the warmer months, we offer
outdoor seating, where you might catch a glimpse of ski jumpers training
on Howelson hills year round ski jump.
Partners Jim
Ruggiero, John Bitume and Jonas
Gabriel have a simple philosophy -- offer customers
multiple casual dining options under one roof and serve only
fresh foods. The concept at Azteca allows
customers to customize their burritos, enchiladas and chimichangas
with a variety of meats, salsas, rice and beans."We don't
pretend to be authentic Mexican food," Ruggiero emphasized. "We
just give people what they want." Oh
yeah check out Steamboat magazine page 34 hear what
they have to say.
The commitment
to fresh ingredients means the kitchen crew at Azteca begins
preparing frijoles negros from scratch each day with a 50-pound
bag of dried black beans, simmering them until they're just the
right consistency. The red salsa starts with hand-chopped, fresh
tomatoes. The cilantro lime rice and Spanish
rice are never over-cooked because the starch turns over so often.
You get the picture. When the partners discovered that the Gomez
family in nearby Craig were making fresh tortillas from scratch,
they quickly incorporated them into the menu. Gomez' hand-wrapped
tamales twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays.
Summer or Winter, stop in and see why
national publications like Paddler, Denver Post and skiing
magazines recommend Azteca Taqueria as the place to eat in Steamboat
Springs.
Eat in or take out, you will be eating in a flash,
complete with unique beverage selection !!
